Victor is Fast but Frustrated
Victor Cox put in an impressive performance in the season finale of the Metzeler British Superstock 1000 Championship but it was one that ultimately ended in frustration. The STP supported rider was quickest of the Kawasaki riders in free practice on board his Blackhorse ZX10R and went on to claim a provisional second row grid place in the first qualifying session. Victor was determined to round off his season with a place on the front row of the grid, however, and he did this in style as halfway through the session he posted a lap of 1m:28.97s around the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, an improvement of almost a second on his first session time, to move into second overall with only the newly crowned champion Richard Cooper managing to go quicker. Victor also posted the 2nd, 3rd and 4th best times respectively through each of the three sectors. A lightning quick start from the lights saw Victor lying second into Druids but leading the pack as they exited Clark Curve. Separate crashes at Dingle Dell for Richard Cooper and Marshall Neill then brought out the safety car and as the bikes crossed the line with the race neutralised. John Crockford collided with Freddy Pett, Crockford unfortunately sustaining multiple injuries in the incident. The race was immediately red flagged and, with the day's events running well behind schedule as a result of this and earlier incidents, race official took the decision not to restart the Superstock event. That decision denied Victor the opportunity of a possible race win and with it a top five place in the championship. On a positive note, Cox had once again established himself as one of the main players in the championship and, but for a run of bad luck earlier in the season, would surely have been a championship contender and that all augurs well for 2012.
